Tackling homophobia in sport

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia is observed on May 17 and aims to coordinate international events that raise awareness of LGBT rights violations and stimulate interest in LGBT rights work worldwide.

A 2017 report published by the Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee stated sport is not doing enough to tackle homophobic abuse, thus the fight against homophobia is everyone’s responsibility.

All clubs can adopt and improve policies and practices to ensure their organisations are inclusive and understanding of the barriers LGBT+ persons face in participating within sport. Check out some of the amazing organisations working to tackle Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia within UK sport who provide support with this:

There is no room in sport for violence and discrimination against LGBT persons.
